Orthopedic Rehabilitation at the Human Motion Vitality Center
Whether you are recovering from a joint replacement, a torn ligament or
other orthopedic injury, rehabilitation is vital to your surgery's success.
While the goal of your surgery is to repair or replace the problem, the
goal of orthopedic rehabilitation is to optimize your recovery and regain
your quality of life.
Located on the OLBH campus, the Human Motion Vitality Center is the Ashland
area's only hospital-based fitness center, offering the Tri-State a variety
of specialized programs in a medically supervised atmosphere to aid in health
maintenance and rehabilitation. The center's rehabilitation specialists,
physical and occupational therapists, exercise physiologists and experienced
nurses can assist you in beginning a regime of exercise and aquatics after
your orthopedic surgery.
"After an injury, physical therapy can be difficult and painful," Tim O'Toole, OLBH physical therapist, said. "To make traditional therapies less
painful and beneficial, we offer warm-water pool therapy at the Human Motion
Vitality Center. The water allows for early joint movement to be possible
even if someone is experiencing pain." Water supports the body and reduces
weight-bearing stress to joints so you can strengthen and tone muscles while
your body heals.
"A course of therapy including exercise has proven to quicken surgery recovery
times, strengthen mental capacity, enhance overall well being and improve
the body"s overall ability to function," O'Toole added. "Many factors are
considered before designing a specific course of treatment for each patient."
The Human Motion Vitality Center features an indoor walking track, a variety
of cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, rehabilitation-size pool,
hot tub and locker room facilities. To learn more about how the center's
physical and occupational therapists can work together with your physician
